The location was great, with snorkelling off the beach, and I loved seeing all the reef sharks and fish in the channel below the restaurant and sunsets at night. The bungalow was comfortable with its own little terrace. The owners and the staff were all lovely people and the place was very clean and tidy, with attractive planting around the buildings.
The meals could be improved. Breakfast was mostly toasted old baguette with slices of NZ cold store apple. We were hoping to enjoy some tropical fruit like banana, pineapple, pawpaw. Tea and instant coffee were available from the restaurant but only using hot water from a thermos (not always very hot) and sometimes t‑bags or milk powder had run out. A hot and cold water dispenser would be an inexpensive improvement. Dinners were spaghetti or rice with usually chicken in a sauce or occasionally tuna. We were disappointed not to have fish meals and were hanging out for fresh fruit and vegetables, although we understand the limitations presented by living in a remote motu in an atoll. Would have loved some island food such as taro, yam, sweet potato, breadfruit, green banana, even potato instead of always rice or pasta. There often was no internet but that is out of the guest house control. There also was often no water from our shower or hand basin and we were given bottles of water to use for washing as well as drinking.
