The place is right in the centre, which was a big plus, but parking was a nightmare and the stairs up to the rooms are narrow and steep, making it a pain to haul luggage. The bathroom also had a problem – the fan fell off while it was running.

It’s just a short walk from the city centre and the host was really friendly and helpful – even on the first day of their holiday they managed to get the complimentary breakfast delivered to our room, and there’s a little inner‑courtyard where you can park a motorbike. The only downsides were a cramped bathroom that felt a bit off and a room that faced the street, so it was a little noisy at times.

The owners are fantastic and they even serve breakfast straight from their own bakery, which was a nice touch. Unfortunately the place shows its age – the bathroom and the whole building could use a facelift, the bed wasn’t super comfy and the sheets could have been cleaner, and the windows sit almost at floor level. Parking is in the back yard, but it’s pretty cluttered and dirty, and because our room was right above the bakery we could hear the mixers kicking in around 2:30 am.

There was no breakfast offered at all, which was disappointing, and I tried to negotiate a lower rate because of that but the staff didn’t seem to understand my request.

The hosts were incredibly welcoming and friendly, and the price was well below what I expected for the quality – I couldn’t find a single thing I disliked.
