A short history
Ute and Arapaho tribes hunted game in the valley during summer months for centuries. Homesteaders arrived in the 1850s, led by Joel Estes who settled his family here in 1859. F.O. Stanley arrived in 1903 seeking mountain air and developed the infrastructure that turned the valley into a resort town.
