Discovery Ancol

“Top of the bill if you wanna explore Ancol. Otherwise not that special except the pool.”

The pool was super beautiful and the garden was nice. It’s a short walk to the supermarket and especially caters to visitors of Ancol Theme Park (we thought it was a bit like an Efteling hotel, not in terms of theming but because it’s close to Jakarta’s main amusement park—hell, I think all of Indonesia. We only went to Sea World: it was fun). The downside was that there was a separate entrance at the gate (a normal road, you still have to pay for the theme park even if you don’t go in).

The room size was fine. The staff, especially at reception, were not friendly at all and clearly need specialized training in that area. They also took money from me without giving me a written receipt when I requested a blanket for my son!!! Also, visitors should not get involved because there is a gate that charges for every entry and exit, and unfortunately the hotel management does not show this or inform you at booking time. The most annoying part of the stay was the maintenance and workers whose voices could be heard working on the rooms in the middle of the night.

The hotel was quite nice, the food at the restaurant was very good, and the check‑in process was very fast. The only drawback is that the hotel is a bit old; a refurbishment of the rooms would help.

The place is excellent, but there is no view and no coffee table or chairs for my wife and me; only a desk and a chair for office work.

Kids friendly with plenty of activities for children to play, but the lift takes a long time.
