The power was steady and the Wi‑Fi worked, but every sign—including the menu—was in Chinese with no English translation.

The Zambian staff were friendly and helpful, yet I had to leave at 07.30 for a meeting at 08.00 and was told the chef wouldn’t arrive until 07.30, so breakfast couldn’t be served before I left. They sent processed cheese, bread, cereal, fruit and yoghurt to my room the night before, which was better than nothing, but no cutlery or crockery was provided. All menus, the TV and even the plug sockets were in Chinese, and I couldn’t use the TV or order food. Phone lines were dead, and there was no housekeeping unless I asked for it, which I couldn’t do because the phone didn’t work. Consequently the tea/coffee station wasn’t refilled, and no washing up or bed making occurred. When I asked to pay by card, they tried to add 16 % VAT and said I could only get the booking price if I paid cash, even though VAT was already included in my confirmation. They eventually let me pay by card but didn’t give me a tax invoice. The $100 cash deposit was odd and I’d never seen that before; I suggested a card guarantee but they insisted on cash.
