The vibe was absolutely insane – a classic old‑school Japanese ryokan with a gorgeous room and overall structure, and the onsen location was amazing, tucked right in the forest or mountains. The outdoor public onsen was always surrounded by mountains and the water was super hot. The dinner experience was lovely; the lady who served us spoke only Japanese, but we managed to get by with Google Translate. The room smelled a bit moldy, like a closed, damp place, and the futons carried that scent, making sleep a bit heavy for me. The bathroom was clean enough, but the onsen area itself was noticeably under‑cleaned. We didn’t enjoy the breakfast, but that wasn’t the hotel’s fault – we just couldn’t handle the early‑morning flavors. The dinner was perfect, however. I would suggest that the onsen booking policy be adjusted: try all private onsens at least once instead of picking just one for half an hour and then moving to the public ones. If there are more free slots, that would be great. Overall the place feels a bit dated, but its magical atmosphere made us satisfied with the experience.
