“Misleading, disappointing and in need of a good refresh.”
Breakfast was decent, but lunch and dinner fell short, feeling more like a British leisure centre than a restaurant; basic and functional but not high quality. The boat that ferries guests to the island was reliable, ran often, and the staff in that area were very friendly and helpful. We visited Double Tree Fiji for our honeymoon and were left very disappointed. The room we booked, a “King Bure with Ocean View,” promised a balcony overlooking the sands and ocean, yet we found ourselves behind other bures with only a sliver of ocean view between buildings, and instead of a beach we saw a demolished sea wall covered in netting that needed cleaning. The bedsheets were old, worn, and bumpy, with multiple stains. The bathroom was adequate but the drains smelled unpleasant and there were many ants. The poolside matched the misleading imagery: a kids’ pool with netted dividers and zones. We were shocked to find very few sun loungers, all old, stained, and torn, with many cushions still needing a wash to remove dried bird droppings. The shortage of loungers forced a scramble each morning, and we were left to sit in a couple of seats near the fallen sea wall, which was not scenic. The hotel also ran out of pool towels several times during our short stay. If you’re looking for a relaxing pool atmosphere, this isn’t the place. The staff were a mixed bag: some were warm and welcoming, others seemed unwilling to be there.
