“staff & system is not global standard, cannot communicate in English”

The card terminal at the front desk simply wouldn't take our Visa or MasterCard, and after a failed payment the staff actually called the police. Officers showed up, looked at our passports and even rummaged through our luggage without giving any clear reason. It felt like a huge over‑reaction. On the plus side, the same cards worked fine at nearby stores like POPMART and Uniqlo.

The spot is fantastic – the metro is just a hundred meters away and you’ve got shops, malls and cafés literally at your doorstep, so you never really need to travel far. Unfortunately the building itself looks tired; the rooms are tiny, don’t match the photos, stay damp and have a weird smell, and the cleaning feels pretty superficial. With only one elevator, we spent ages waiting, which is hard to swallow when we paid $500 for three nights and expected better service.

Getting around was a breeze; everything was within easy reach. The downside was that none of the staff spoke any English, which made simple interactions feel like a real hassle, especially since language barriers seem common across China.

The hotel sits in a prime spot, just a two‑minute walk from the main street, and the beds and pillows are super comfortable. They also provide bottled mineral water every day, which was a nice touch. The problem started when we booked a queen‑size room and were handed a -1 floor unit with no natural light and only a tiny window – that should have been clearly stated beforehand. While housekeeping came daily, the shower had a fake tile that was pretty disgusting.
