“This cottage is to be avoided”
There was nothing that pleased me. I stayed from 06.03. – 07.03.2026, overnight for two people, one night 5 km north on R 44 towards Stellenbosch, near the entrance on Klein Helderberg road and along the live fence parallel to R 44 heading south. The accommodation is best avoided. R 44 is a four‑lane road running north‑south, about 100 m away, separated by a hedge, and the passing cars and trucks are very annoying. The ad promised a lot that wasn’t delivered. The cottage has an undefined smell, and there are reports of rats in the thatched roof. I got a severe headache and had to lie down the next day. Interior facilities are incomplete: the stove/oven in the main room doesn’t work, there’s no table for meals, only one chair with a roll‑up as part of a desk that’s unusable for eating. The bathroom has a plain floor without a shower tray, a small washbowl in a corner, and a toilet whose flush is unreliable because the water pressure is insufficient to fill the reservoir. The bathroom door leading outside feels unsafe and is in disrepair. On the wooden deck outside there are two chairs and a round tree slice; it’s not suitable for eating, and there’s a chair and table for decoration. There’s no security around the cottage, giving a very unsafe vibe. The host is unreliable and doesn’t keep his promises.
