I loved how quiet and private the camp was, and the host communicated great. The welcome hamper with wine, cakes, biscuits, teacakes, and fresh milk in the fridge was a lovely surprise. The only downside was that the caravan lock didn’t work – the key didn’t fit – and I missed having a hairdryer, though that’s a minor issue.

The place was clean and cosy, and the owners were quick to reply. The site was quiet and well kept. I usually stay at the Isle of Whithorn because of the coast, but this spot was very convenient for the Wigtown Book Festival, especially for car travel. There weren’t many local walks because the road was busy, but there was a large field on site for the dog to run. A few extra instructions, like how to use the fire and the need to lift the cooker lid before igniting the grill, would have helped. The fridge had no freezer compartment.

A quiet, peaceful spot, wonderfully isolated from the digital world, perfect for experiencing calm and nature. The host was really kind, with prompt responses, and every essential was provided. Beautiful beaches nearby, and don't miss the Mull of Galloway lighthouse, a real highlight of the trip
