The hosts were very friendly and the location is superb, just a few minutes on foot to the beach, restaurants, and supermarkets. The hotel sits right on the main street, so depending on the room it can get louder at night because of bars, traffic, or animals. From the balcony you can spot a lot of wildlife, including Indian palm squirrel, monkeys, and peacocks. We extended our stay and swapped rooms in the middle of it, which went smoothly. The value for money is excellent, hot water is available, and the air‑conditioning works perfectly. We’ll definitely book here again. PS: the room is larger than the listed 8 m². A downside is that if you leave food out, ants may show up – but that’s normal in Sri Lanka and they disappear on their own.

The room was spacious, equipped with a fridge and a small pantry. The apartment is on the main street, and despite all the noise from bars and traffic, the room stays fairly quiet. I would not recommend Unawatuna as a whole; the apartment is functional but lacks any real atmosphere.
