The location, safari offering and owner were positives, but it was still basic despite being renovated. The reviews were slightly different from reality. It was enough for a one‑night stay.
We loved the tour that Chamin (property owner) organised to Bundala NP for birding. He is a keen photographer and along with the jeep driver they knew all the birds and when to find them. The rooms were basic but excellently located overlooking the lagoons. The breakfasts and dinner were excellent with fresh fish purchased from the fisherman coming in off the lagoon. The steep steps to our apartment may trouble some on the upstairs room

Fantastic location overlooking the lagoon and also watching the daily fish catch come in, also within a local village and genuine home stay vibe. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, outstanding knowledge of area and bird life which he shared as our safari guide. Dinner delicious with fresh caught grilled fish. Even facilitated a visit to local school upon my request. Mossie net would be helpful over bed
“Super für einen Besuch im Bundula Nationalpark.”
From bed to Nationalpark, I could spot water buffalo, monkeys, and a bunch of birds. Chamin was super attentive and a great guide; we did the Bundala Safari with him, and he knows an insane amount of bird species, while his driver has eagle eyes. Dining there is possible, and breakfast feels authentic and tasty. We stayed in the new cottages section. Luxury isn’t to be expected, but the location is fantastic!
