“侘び寂びに触れ、都会の喧騒を忘れる宿。”
The breakfast was delicious, especially the rice itself, which made me keep eating from the start of the day; I couldn’t have dinner that night, so next time I stay I’ll definitely try it. The staff were genuinely kind—not just polite, but warm and reassuring, with subtle gestures that pleased me. The building’s history and charm offered a taste of old‑world Japan that modern hotels can’t match. The original pajamas were comfortable, and the tea sweets in the room were tasty. Small details like these made the stay enjoyable. The view from the room was lovely, with some rooms overlooking Karatsu Castle and others offering ocean views, which is a bonus for those who want to explore Karatsu while staying. Because it’s a historic building, some structural quirks are inevitable, but I felt inconvenienced by a few things: the limited number of outlets made charging phones a bit difficult; the air‑conditioner was hard to set to the right temperature, so the central room sometimes got too cold while the rest felt too hot when a shoji was closed; the dryness was noticeable; Wi‑Fi was weak unless you connected, so those who rely on a good connection should be careful. Another issue was the brightness in the morning—large windows and light‑transmitting curtains made the room very bright, and the curtains were about 10 cm shorter than the floor, letting light in from below. Those who like to wake up with the sunrise will appreciate it, but if you prefer a dark room to sleep slowly, it might be a bit harsh. The historic charm is undeniable, but for those who prioritize comfort, preferences may differ.
