“Cheap, but there's a reason...”

The hotel sits right on the seafront, close to shops, bars and the pier, and the staff were friendly and the premises clean. However, the property is actually three different hotels merged into one and feels very dated, with old decor, mismatched furniture, some pieces with carpet around their base, a lumpy and squashy mattress that made me almost roll out of it, non‑working light bulbs, no air conditioning (just a tiny USB‑plugged fan), a hairdryer with a PAT test sticker that was thirteen years out of date, a cramped shower with a pillar right by the door that forced me to squeeze sideways, a shower head rail that clung to the wall and fell when touched, and a breakfast that was only cereal, toast and yogurt despite claiming to be continental; hot options were served to order and breakfast was an extra charge, which was acceptable given the room price. The fire escape was bizarrely illegal: from our room the hand‑drawn instructions directed us to the next room’s window, the key to that room was in a break‑glass on the door frame, but the glass was gone and on another floor the key was missing entirely. Relying on guests to find a key and unlock a door in an emergency is unacceptable, especially if someone had a drink and took the key for a laugh. I stayed only one night, found no other options, and would not return.

“Highly recommend staying at Cân Y Bae”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the staff were excellent, the room was clean and comfortable, the location is perfect for both Venue Cymru and walking distance into town, breakfast was awesome, and I will definitely stay here again; I have nothing negative to say about Cân Y Bae.
