We had a disappointing stay: an undisclosed downgrade, dirty bed linen, and wasted hours. We stayed at Best Western Plus Paris Meudon Ermitage for five nights, arriving on 16 September around 10:00–10:30 p.m. after four days travelling from Kyiv. We were exhausted. We had booked and prepaid about a month in advance for a spacious room with a terrace in the newer wing. The receptionist checked us in and sent us to the old wing without mentioning any change to our booking. The room was completely different from what we had paid for: small, very dated, with no terrace and no regular window—only a skylight that did not close properly, making the room cold and noisy. It was also very dirty, including the bed linen. After such a long journey, this was particularly upsetting. When we returned to reception, the receptionist appeared not to understand our complaint, despite previously communicating with us in English. Eventually, she admitted that our booked room was unavailable, so she had assigned us this one instead. We only learned this because we challenged it. We asked for another room and even offered to pay extra because we desperately wanted to rest. Her attitude felt dismissive and at times mocking. She offered no practical solution that evening, only saying that her colleague would arrange something the next morning, without giving a time. We went down to reception at 9:00 a.m. The morning colleague was polite and helpful, although he seemed only vaguely aware of the situation. He offered complimentary breakfast, which we accepted after initially declining, as we had planned to eat in Paris. We appreciated his kindness. After breakfast, we waited approximately another hour and a half in the lobby and finally moved rooms close to lunchtime, carrying our luggage between wings. Dealing with the problem, waiting and relocating cost us roughly five to six hours of our trip. The move was presented as giving us a “better room” because we were dissatisfied.
