I only get to visit El Jadida once, so I wanted to see La Cité Portugaise and chose Riad Mazighen in its center. This not‑so‑small Riad is a great choice among the surprisingly large selection of lodging in El Jadida. The interior décor is lovely, the rooms are spotless and the staff are very friendly. Prices are unbeatable. The Riad is close to all sights and to the pleasant Café do Mar or restaurant La Portugaise. A few steps beyond the city walls you can buy dates, biscuits, spices or a fresh fish dinner from the ocean and support the locals. I stayed in early February and the room had no heating, but the extra thick, soft blankets were fine. Breakfast was served in a nearby house a few steps away, a short walk, and it was fresh, delicious and the service was excellent. If there is a small pot for tips, tip generously – the Moroccan staff work hard for guests' happiness. Everything was perfect!

The merchants in the Portuguese quarter were nice. The rooms were very too small, cardboard used as windows so it was cold and noisy. No heating. Bedding was like a wooden board. Reception was very improvable: our host sent us away because he had to manage another place a bit farther. We got an explanation and he managed to "fix" the situation but the damage was done.

I picked this Riad in the heart of the old medina because I wanted to explore the morning and then move on. Breakfast was great and served in a nearby spot. The guy who checked us in was very friendly and easygoing. The room wasn’t the cleanest; it could use a touch more tidying, and there were no hangers available.
