“Great for partying, not for comfort or cleanliness.”
I loved the location; it was easy to reach the main street and the beaches, though Google Maps made it seem like the hostel was directly on the shore, which was a bit misleading. They organized a lot of social events—from tours to bar crawls—and my room was especially fun during karaoke night. I met some great people, and the staff remembered our names and greeted us every time we passed. That personal touch was really appreciated. However, the facilities were the biggest let‑down. The whole place, including the bathrooms, had a strong mothball smell and the cleanliness was poor. The bathrooms looked neglected, and only one hot shower worked; one night there was no water at all. Even on an island, basic upkeep should be there. There were no curtains, so the room lit up instantly in the morning, and the mattresses were awful. The towel rental system was inconvenient, with nowhere to dry towels properly, and the lockers were either broken or too small. I’ve stayed in many hostels and consider myself low‑maintenance, so I was surprised by how disappointing this was, especially for the price and the reviews. My hostel mates who booked around the same time paid different rates, which was frustrating. If I had paid less, I might not have been so disappointed, but for what I paid, it wasn’t worth it. Overall, it felt more like a party hostel than a place where you could get a decent night’s sleep. The social scene is a big draw, so it might suit people who just want to party and meet others, but if you want comfortable sleep and to explore the island, spend your money elsewhere.
