This was one of the best castle stays we’ve ever had. I don’t even think of it as a hotel; it goes far beyond what a typical hotel offers. Warm, friendly staff greeted us, gave a tour, and led us to our room. The heated pool and spa were the first things we tried, and they were absolutely fantastic, with beautiful views of Bolzano and the village’s tranquility. Later, we dined at the restaurant and met Stefanie, who was welcoming guests, saying goodbye, and ensuring everything was perfect. We also saw her at breakfast on both mornings and around the property, which really highlighted the care and attention given to guests. This made the stay feel truly personal and special. Overall, it was beyond imagination, and we would definitely come back if they continue to welcome foreign guests. Everything was spot on.

A fairy‑tale castle in the middle of vineyards… I had to move rooms three times because of noise from other guests. No one was at fault, but some rooms have ancient flooring that can’t be replaced. It’s fine if upstairs guests know and respect that, but it becomes an issue if they don’t.

I’ve stayed in several 5‑star hotels, but none surpasses Schloss Freudenstein so far. I’ll try to sum up all the impressions: cleanliness was absolutely perfect, from the parking lot, driveway, garden, spa area, to the rooms. It’s a perfect place of quiet. I think there are only 16 rooms in this very large property, which ensures a lot of peace. The spa area is beautiful, with a perfect view of Bozen. Both the 30 °C warm panoramic pool (100 % perfect temperature) and the panoramic sauna and relaxation room are superb. The staff were attentive, reserved, and exceptionally friendly in all areas. Breakfast: eggs, bacon, pancakes, and coffee are ordered with very courteous service and personally prepared in top quality. The rest of the breakfast is varied, abundant, and of very high quality. The restaurant is also top level. As a layperson, a Michelin star wouldn’t surprise me. There’s the option to order à la carte or a 4‑course menu (my recommendation). It was definitely worth the price. The surroundings invite wide‑scale walking and strolling. Every corner inside and around this accommodation is beautifully maintained, decorated, and polished. Parking is available right at the property. On arrival, you either go up or park down (the on‑site instructions are clear), check in, and then a golf cart brings your luggage from the car to the room. There are also ongoing small attentions and delights. We’ll definitely come back. The only thing – and I mention it only to note something as criticism – is that the nice elements, for example in the bathroom, are a little worn, and a glance under the fixtures reveals somewhat rough workmanship.
