The Avalon Motel Thames, part of Wenzel Motels, is a prime base to explore the Coromandel Peninsula. Located near Coromandel Town, Whitianga, Cathedral Cove, Hahei, Hot Water Beach, and Kauaeranga Valley, it offers easy access to local walks and attractions. The motel is within 1.5 km of supermarkets, shopping, cafes, bars, museums, and craft stores, with the Thames Hauraki Rail Trail nearby and a Saturday farmers market.

The room was spacious, the facilities were good, and the couch was comfortable – I’d stay again. The shower’s connection hole needs fixing; it looks awful, especially for tourists.

The room was quiet and roomy, but the single beds were too soft, the electric blankets had no outlet, and there were no spare blankets.
