“Disappointing on multiple fronts”

The rooms were well equipped with nice toiletries, good bedding and towels, and having a kettle in the room was a great touch. The overall experience was disappointing, especially since we had high hopes. We were told at check‑in that breakfast wouldn’t be available that morning, but we weren’t aware and had an early start the next day. The main issue was our expectation, based on earlier reviews and the pub’s website, that this would be a quiet, relaxing country pub. Instead, on our first night a (pretty good, thankfully!) band played until 11 p.m. and the crowds were rowdy until midnight. We love local country pubs and it’s great to see this one thriving, but the music from the floor below our room kept going past 11 p.m., which was not ideal when we had an early wedding the next morning. The owner later told me it was my fault for not checking their social media where such events are advertised. I’ll keep that in mind for the future. Sunday morning breakfast was good, but despite repeated reminders to the owner about my allergies, this wasn’t communicated to the kitchen staff – who were friendly and apologetic but also explained they had been missing key ingredients, notably eggs. It’s a real shame because I called the owner before writing this review to give direct feedback, but he was uninterested and simply reiterated that I was wrong. I’ll let future guests decide for themselves.

“Perfect example of what a pub should offer. Food was outstanding.”

“Okay but none of the above were rectified while we were their.”

We skipped breakfast because £15 per person would have cost £90 for the three days we were there, which felt a bit much. We also reported that the oiled seat was loose and not fitted correctly. Additionally, the cold water in the shower didn’t work—only the hot water was available—so we couldn’t shower. The sink’s plug, when pushed down, lacked rubber, and water disappeared within seconds when the unit was filled.

“Wonderful overnight stay - very good food, warm welcome, very relaxed.”

A charming pub in a quiet village just a short drive from the A66. The welcoming sister and brother team made us feel at ease in a relaxed, warm atmosphere. Plenty of locals frequent it, which is always a good sign. The food was delicious—exactly what you need after a long drive. Everything was straightforward and great value for a single overnight stay. Nothing to complain about. Breakfast wasn’t included, but that was because I didn’t book directly.
