Calm at Bangphat

The place near Bangphat Bay is set up simply but kept tidy. Small shops nearby sell water, and it’s best to grab drinks and snacks at 7‑11 beforehand. Two one‑person kayaks are available on the property, and Mr Bangh can arrange an extra canoe if needed. From the kayak you can spot jumping fish, a few birds, and monkeys along the riverbank. A mangrove trail runs close to the accommodation, ending near a traditional fishing village. The restaurant just past the bridge on the left at the very end is excellent; for five people they prepared a selection of seven dishes for 1400 Baht. Mr Bangh organized a boat trip to James Bond Island, including a short kayak tour and a visit to the floating village, and overall took great care of us, even picking us up in the city.

Mr Bang is very friendly and you can use the kayaks right from the accommodation without extra charge. There’s an authentic fishing village nearby. I was a bit bothered when I found a cockroach in my room, which probably happens occasionally but was a challenge for me. It would be helpful to know that alcohol isn’t sold in the area and that spontaneous or evening shopping is difficult. A good spot for two or three nights!

“AUFKEINENFALL!!! ACHTUNG!!!”

Finger weg!!! Einfach nur schrecklich!!! We arrived and were already shocked by the surroundings. The pictures make it look like a secluded nature spot, but it’s only partly true. The property actually sits directly on a road, with a pond between the street and the house that isn’t very inviting. The “cleanliness” is completely unacceptable and simply absent. We left after one night. The back terrace door was broken and wouldn’t close, covered by a curtain. The owner only said it was under repair and didn’t see it necessary to inform guests beforehand. The location is extremely unpleasant. The nearby village felt spooky, and at 20:00 and 05:00 the mosque’s “chants” erupt through metal speakers so loudly you feel they’re inside the house, amplified by the non‑closing door. Unbearably bad location. Be careful when choosing a place! After we left, we informed the landlord and asked for a refund, which was promised but never received. Better to look elsewhere.

You can fish directly from the cottage. It gets very noisy when the prayers start and can last a long time; nothing is mentioned about this.

We liked our stay. It’s a good spot to unwind and escape. The room was clean and comfortable, and the host was eager to help, offering to arrange a boat tour. The fishing village is within walking distance and a great place to eat all kinds of seafood. The area is excellent for birdwatching, with mangroves nearby and a nice concrete path through the mangrove forest. We saw three different kingfishers, two woodpeckers, broadbills, a mangrove pitta, and even a fish owl. We enjoyed a short kayak tour. Remember the mangroves depend on the tide, so check the tides before planning a kayak. The photos on Booking are a bit more idyllic than reality. The water in front of the small rooms is just a pond, overlooking a quiet street. The mangroves on the other side are only wet at high tide, so most of the day they’re muddy.
