The staff were pleasant and we were upgraded. They took into account that we were arriving late at night for a wedding and offered us a quieter room so we could sleep the next day, which was much appreciated. The croissants weren’t very fresh, but the crusty bread was good.

The house and its surroundings were nice. We had asked for a quiet room and were upgraded, which was a thoughtful gesture, but it didn’t make up for the rest of the experience. The rooms are air‑conditioned, yet it was 30 degrees when we arrived. At 8:30 am we were woken by doors slamming in the hallways and the housekeeping vacuum. It’s hard to talk about a restful stay under those conditions. Breakfast was also a big disappointment. Although advertised as being served until 9:30 am, our arrival at 9:20 am clearly caused a problem. The hotelier told us only fifteen minutes later that he was closing and that we should leave. We felt rushed and like a nuisance, which isn’t the experience one expects when staying at a hotel. The breakfast itself was very poor quality: extremely limited choices, stale pastries from the previous or the day before… in short, not appetizing. Given the price, the value for money is far from satisfactory. Finally, we didn’t find the welcome particularly warm or friendly. Overall, a disappointing experience we won’t repeat.

The room was comfortable, the garden and outdoor dining area were fantastic, and the host was great. We had private parking with locked gates at night. We didn’t have air conditioning, and we stayed during a 38‑degree heat wave, but a portable air‑con unit was provided.

“ça pourrait être bien, mais...”

The setting… a bit like Hercule Poirot. The owners are accommodating. The room was really too small and lifeless, the toilet was too tight and “claustrophobic” for a 1.85 m person to sit or stand without opening the door. The coat rack in the bathroom was on old tiles. The other coat rack was a shelf above the radiator, occupied by a fan. The park had no place to sit. Access to the Indre was blocked by bushes. Breakfast was not great, with few options despite the pastries being from the previous or the day before. I’m not sure about the criteria for awarding the stars.
