“The overall impression was that this hotel was being poorly managed and short staffed.”
We had no room service at all, even after requesting it four times; the bathroom had no soap or shampoo. Breakfast selection varied – we waited long for bacon and eggs, and the toast machine was broken on two mornings. We’d stayed at this hotel at least six times in recent years and had never had problems before.
“Allright for one night”
The room was large with a great shower, but the standard Best Western location meant the restaurant wasn’t bad but not great either.
“Great for a short stay. Facilities a little tired”
The golf and spa were good, but there weren’t enough private or quiet areas to avoid large groups.
“Functional place to stay over providing you are out all day but personally wouldn't visit again.”
The staff were warm, friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was good though a bit pricey as an extra to the room rate; the dining room looked clean and presentable, and the hotel is popular with golfers and those of us who want to explore the area. However, the overall cleanliness felt off-putting, and the accommodation was fairly basic and a little shabby, so if you’re after something more comfortable or refined the Best Western Dartmouth Hotel probably isn’t the right choice. The hotel is only a few miles from Dartmouth, but the Park and Ride stopped on 13 Sept, so parking in Dartmouth became limited; it’s about 7 miles from Totnes, so a car works. A public bus stop is a 15‑minute walk outside the hotel, but it’s hidden in a hedgerow and you have to cross a busy main road used by large agricultural vehicles, which felt exposed and dangerous. Parts of the hotel looked tired, somewhat shabby and in need of redecorating. The stairway and corridor to my room hadn’t been vacuumed for some time, with dirt and debris on the carpet that stayed there the whole four‑night stay. The room was very basic – the bed wasn’t made properly when I entered, the wardrobe shelving paint was chipped and worn, and the windows had aged fittings. I’d call the room functional but very basic and not inviting, and it was overpriced at £472.00 for four nights. The bathroom was clean and serviceable but had no toilet brush. My room was only serviced once during the four days. The spa and swimming pool area didn’t look as good as the photos and could be cleaner. The men’s changing rooms smelled badly, and by the fourth day I had to tell staff because they weren’t cleaned daily. The lockers in the changing rooms were old‑fashioned, coin‑operated, and the keys often stuck. The push‑button showers were tired and outdated.
“Can't comment about facilities didn't stay”
We didn’t stay, so there was nothing positive; we hated waiting an hour and a half for our room after arriving after 3 pm. At check‑in we were told there were staff shortages and to wait in the bar until the room was ready. We didn’t expect to wait that long, and when our room was still not ready we left. No drink or sandwich was offered while we waited. The photos on the site didn’t reflect the hotel at all; the reception and bar were pretty basic, and we never saw a room.
