Xia and Brian were extremely accommodating and helpful, especially when I called them on the phone to arrange breakfast after forgetting to order it before heading out for the evening; it arrived on time the next morning as requested.

The location is good. The bed is comfortable. The shower pressure is fine. Breakfast is nicely cooked. The hosts are pleasant. The bathroom lacks a shelf, hooks, an extractor, and the toilet flush is weak. The chairs occupy too much space in the room.

Brian and Xia made my stay at the Merrydale comfortable with great tips on sights, shops, and eateries; the location was excellent, and the bedroom, though cozy, was clean and comfy. Tea, coffee, milk, and sugar were refilled daily, and even though I only had breakfast twice, it definitely prepared me for the day ahead.

The hotel was clean and tidy, the hosts were lovely people, but the room we got was not good: we had to climb 45 steps to the attic room, and at 72 my wife, who has COPD and is 68, found it unsuitable. We paid £183 and didn’t enjoy the stay at all; I had booked because it was advertised as breakfast included, but on arrival I was told it wasn’t and was asked to pay another £10 each for breakfast. My wife only eats porridge, and £10 for a bowl of porridge just about ruined the break for us.

The place was welcoming and very guest‑friendly, with nothing to note.
