The Marumine Kanko Hotel is situated in Ashinomaki Onsen, 16 km from central Aizuwakamatsu and 14 km from Aizuwakamatsu Castle. This ryokan features a public hot spring bath, open-air hot spring bath, and sauna, along with a free shuttle to Ashinomaki Station. The hot spring felt wonderful and refreshed me, and the meals used new rice, which was very tasty. The breakfast rice balls were served freshly made and showed thoughtful preparation. The room’s ventilation fan had dust buildup, so a cleaning might be in order sometimes.

The setting was beautiful, the room was spacious and quiet, and the staff were kind and helpful. Both the breakfast and dinner buffets were extensive and delicious. A free shuttle bus ran to Ashinomaki Onsen station. I stayed in a room with an outdoor bath and a gorgeous view of the river, so I didn’t use the common baths—those allow smaller tattoos if covered, but I have several and didn’t mind because I had a private bath. The souvenir shop was large with many options. The only downside was that breakfast finished early, with the last order at 8:30 and the room closing at 9.

The hotel was fully comfortable. The private onsen was magical, with a view of the river. The buffet offered a wide variety for both dinner and breakfast. Nothing negative.

The view outside the window was beautiful, especially with the maple leaves. The hair dryer’s power was really weak; it was only shoulder‑length, and even after a long time it didn’t dry fully, so I stopped using it when it was half‑dry.
