The location and the rate I got were positives, and the overall facilities suggest a very good international hotel, but the management left a very negative impression. This place has been a Melbourne landmark for decades, yet it’s severely lacking now. The food and beverage, including service, are an absolute disgrace, except for one instance. The menu shows no pairing sense; I was served a scotch fillet with béarnaise sauce that was overcooked, tough, and inedible, and the table next to mine was no better – the executive chef seems incompetent and disgraceful. It’s sad for a hotel that had been great for about 40 years. I was charged roughly $200 for parking, and though the room was nice, the wind whistling through the door all night capped off a very, very disappointing experience.
