The owner, Keita Yano, speaks perfect English and was incredibly helpful, even making phone calls to locate essential parts for my bicycle. Wakaba Ryokan sits in a great spot for anyone cycling through Japan.

Having stayed here last year and found it comfortable, I returned this time, partly because they offer free bike rentals, though I ended up not using them since rain looked likely.

I was really happy about the 24-hour availability of the herbal bath, which was a great perk. The hotel had a lot of other nice touches, but unfortunately, I didn't have any major complaints.

I'm still reeling from my stay at this incredible hotel, which felt more like visiting a warm and welcoming Japanese family than checking into a traditional hotel. From the moment I arrived to the moment I left, the staff treated me like one of their own, opening their hearts and homes to me. The hotel itself is a beautifully traditional Japanese building, and the family who runs it is absolutely fantastic.
