“Sympathique”
The room matched the photos, the staff were very responsive, and water was always available; overall it was a solid stay. They even lent me a snorkel top because there were a few micro‑jellyfish in the water at that time. On the upper floor there’s a large open terrace for yoga or relaxing. The owner’s cat was very endearing, and we loved staying in Gili Air. I have a few remarks but nothing dramatic, and I’d still recommend the place. When we arrived, the sheets smelled damp, so we asked for new ones and they were changed right away. The AC didn’t work well (remote issue), but the staff tried to help. A lingering smell in the bathroom persisted even after staff attempts to fix it. That was a downside for us, but for others the breakfast on the beach is a plus—nice but not very practical, five minutes on foot can feel short, but in the heat it’s sometimes tough and inconvenient if you want to eat and then return to the hotel to prep for the day. Also, absolutely avoid the avocado toast (a slice of white bread with a kind of avocado sauce that isn’t great); instead, go for the omelette or pancakes, which are excellent! There’s also a hot drink and a fruit juice (it’s a shame we can’t order just the fruit without it being a juice—I don’t quite get why). We were used to housekeeping being done automatically in our other stays, but here you have to request it, otherwise it isn’t done (we stayed one week and I think if we hadn’t asked, it wouldn’t have been done, so good to know).
