“Uitstekende bakkerij. Prima kamers, maar (vooral in de zomer) veel geluidsoverlast.”
The room was spacious and the lift worked fine, though a few steps at the entrance still kept it out of reach for wheelchair users; we enjoyed an excellent slice of cake in the Biergarten right after arrival (cash only) and bought some pastries to take with us when we checked out. The noise was a real problem, especially early in the morning – our room 208 sat directly above the bakery’s two delivery vans that were loaded with loud stacking and moving of crates at 5:00 am on Monday and from 5:45 am on the other days; the rooms have no air‑conditioning, so when temperatures rose above 25 °C (even 30 or 35 °C) we had to keep the windows open at night to cool down, but the early‑morning clatter forced us to close them again at 5:00/5:45 am. Across the street a brewery operates quietly, yet Markstrassee is fairly busy with cars, buses and a lot of noisy mopeds even around midnight. On the opposite side of the hotel the church’s bells strike every quarter hour and the heavier bell hits the hour, with a five‑minute sequence at 6:00 am announcing the new day, making nights short. The staff member who handled our reservation seemed very uninterested.
