“Will never stay at Novotel Brentford again and will never recommend. Ruined my night and weekend.”
The room. After a long and demanding week at work, alongside dealing with a number of unexpected personal difficulties, I had arranged to get away with my partner for an evening out of town. The intention was simply to spend some quality time together, relax, unwind and take a break from the pressures of everyday life. Having chosen your hotel, I expected a welcoming and professional check-in experience that would allow us to enjoy our evening without unnecessary stress. Unfortunately, that was not the experience we received. The receptionist's conduct during check-in Upon arriving at reception, I asked the receptionist some straightforward questions regarding parking and payment, as I wanted to ensure everything was arranged correctly for our stay. Rather than responding professionally and assisting me with my enquiry, the receptionist stated that because he could smell cannabis, he did not want to serve me or allow me to pay for my parking, and that I would have to speak to his colleague instead. I found this response completely inappropriate and unnecessary. I was attempting to check in, clarify the parking arrangements and make the relevant payment. These were ordinary customer service enquiries, and I expected them to be dealt with courteously and professionally. Instead, I was effectively dismissed by the receptionist in front of other customers and my partner, without a reasonable explanation, any meaningful discussion or any consideration for how his conduct would come across. The manner in which he dealt with me felt disrespectful, judgemental and unnecessarily confrontational. What concerns me most is that the receptionist appeared to make a decision about whether he was willing to serve me based on his perception of a smell, rather than handling the situation appropriately. If he had a genuine concern, there were professional ways to raise it, seek clarification or involve a manager
