“Exceptional”
A flawless stay in paradise. Anthony was kind, welcoming, generous, and full of useful information. The curry and rice were amazing. We arrived on the first day and stayed for three nights, enjoying fresh vegetables every day—about 20 in total. The room was spotless and of high quality, and the pool was a great way to cool off after a hot hike. No air‑con, but a fan sufficed in the mountains, and there was no Wi‑Fi but good 4G. The town was very rural, yet we loved the friendly locals. The local restaurants, though some might find them a bit grubby, were great, and we could easily whip up a vegetable roti for lunch. There was even a beer shop. We hiked through the tea estate, enjoyed stunning views at the top of five peaks, and visited the tea pickers’ village where children excitedly waved and tried their first English word. The hike up Gombaniya was a challenging drive to the start; we had a scooter and no off‑road experience, so the road was not ideal. The hike itself was well‑marked and cut back. A guide offered to show us, but we preferred to go alone. Leeches are present in the wet areas, so cover your ankles. We would have stayed longer to explore more, and we hope to return.
