I loved everything about the place: the breakfasts were tasty and filling, the chef did a great job, and the staff were polite and helpful. The only downside was that there was no designated smoking area on each floor.

Located opposite the Mariinskyi Palace in Kyiv's central business district, Natsionalny Hotel is a 7-minute walk from Khreschatyk Metro Station. Elegant rooms with city views, soundproofed for comfort, feature hot drinks facilities, satellite TV, and minibars. A grand restaurant serves light breakfasts and Ukrainian specialities, while a cosy bar offers drinks. Nearby shops, museums, and Dynamo Stadium make it an ideal base for exploring Kyiv.

The new bed was clean and comfortable, but there were not enough power outlets for charging devices.

They had a bomb shelter and the bed was quite comfy. The bathroom was in an unacceptably poor state and highly unsanitary, with visible black mold in the shower corners, along the glass door seals, and on the soap holder rack. The shower head was cheap plastic, would not stay in its holder, and someone had literally wrapped plastic cling film around the bar as a makeshift fix to hold it in place. The water pressure was consistently weak, and the water frequently failed to get warmer than lukewarm. The toilet seat had yellow staining and was not properly cleaned prior to my arrival. There was no spare toilet paper in the room. Check‑in was handled by the front desk staff who simply handed me a keycard and told me my floor number, giving no information about the facilities, and despite choosing this hotel for its bomb shelter, they made no effort to point out or explain where it was located. English proficiency among staff was practically non‑existent, leading to major communication issues. There was not a single English‑language TV channel available in the room. Ordering food was a complete ordeal: when I called room service, the staff member could not speak English, told me to call “999”, and hung up. The line “999” was completely unstaffed and nobody ever answered. I had to walk down to the restaurant to order, and because of the language barrier I had to mark my choices on a paper napkin using a printed menu. I ordered a Caesar salad and French fries; half an hour later, the staff brought only the salad, claiming they could not serve the fries because they “ran out of fish.” The keycards were frustratingly unreliable, getting erased constantly whenever they came near a smartphone, making them extremely impractical to carry around during a normal day out.

The location and rooms were good, but there could be issues with the staff.
