“Lage gut, aber 400m zum nächsten Wassertaxi Stand”
The location was good. The room’s facilities and breakfast were lacking.

The San Marco Palace is located in Saint Mark's Square, Venice, offering luxury accommodation. Elegant Venetian furnishings adorn air-conditioned rooms and suites with wood floors, patterned rugs, satellite TV, minibar, and private bathroom. Some suites feature a balcony or terrace overlooking St. Mark's Bell Tower. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi, a buffet breakfast, and Italian restaurant. Rialto Bridge is a 10-minute walk away.

I’m not sure how to rate a hotel from such a central spot. San Marco is just 50 m away, the shop is next door, and there are restaurants nearby. The décor feels old‑fashioned, which we found charming. Breakfast was fine. The photos of the room didn’t match reality; it was dark and dim. We liked the style, but the paint had peeled off the ceiling, so I couldn’t praise it. The bed felt like a camp mattress—hard and uncomfortable, and at that price you can’t expect such a poor bed. The staff rarely acknowledged us; when I asked for help I only got a short answer. They seemed unhurried, as if customers weren’t a priority. Apparently there were enough guests that the service didn’t feel urgent.

The location is amazing. The room was large, although I had to ask for a change. Breakfast was good. Overall, for old Venice it’s great. Don’t pick the room next to all the air‑conditioners—they’ll keep you awake, but the staff fixed it and moved us to another room.

The spot is spot on, but the kitchen was a mess—no pots, pans, or crockery, and they claimed tea facilities that were non‑existent. The bed and pillows felt like stone, totally uncomfortable.

The location was spot‑on, right in the middle of Venice, just a corner from San Marco Palace and the Doge Palace, making it easy to hop back for a quick chill when the heat hit. The hotel had a private entrance and was perfect for evening strolls. However, the Royal San Marco Hotel had taken over the San Marco Hotel between booking and arrival, so the rooms hadn’t been updated yet. My room was huge and well‑furnished, but the bed was rock‑hard and the new mattresses were no help; the pillows were the worst I’ve ever used—thin and rock‑hard. The 1970s blow dryer was a joke, the sheets were scratchy, and the bathroom ceiling paint was peeling. The fridge barely worked and the A/C fan was loud. Breakfast was just okay. The front desk staff were perfunctory, a bit dismissive, and not warm at all. Compared to all the places we’ve stayed, their hospitality was low; every question was met with a flat, unenthusiastic response. Some places don’t try because they’re always sold out, but that attitude is just bad.
