“Lovely people and location, but the property needs attention”
The people and hospitality were the best part of our stay: the staff were very nice, kind, polite and welcoming, and it was truly a pleasure to deal with them—something that should definitely stay. The inn sits in a lovely countryside setting, and we could see horses from our room in the morning. Unfortunately, the first impression could be much better: unclear signage, neglected planters, visible containers and machinery, and no clear main entrance. The rooms felt cramped, with mixed furniture styles, and the bathroom especially needs major renovation to meet expected standards. The limited amount of soap and shampoo was surprising, although the room was well equipped with a hairdryer, kettle, tea and coffee facilities. The food was what you’d expect from a traditional pub, but I’d suggest removing plastic flowers and unnecessary decorations to let the historic building’s character shine. Menu presentation could also improve with a simple, practical, hygienic solution such as a wooden clipboard or laminated menu. The proximity to Alton Towers is a big plus that the inn should promote more strongly, especially given its beautiful rural surroundings. Overall, Peakstones Inn has great potential, and with improvements to maintenance, bathrooms, presentation and marketing, it could offer a much stronger experience while keeping the excellent hospitality of its staff.
