The Astoria was still under renovation, so they sent us to the nearby Meak Hotel. It was a bit annoying to find out only minutes before check‑in, but at least the new place was close by. The staff at Meak were a little brusque, and the room wasn’t spotless—stains on the walls, hair in the bathroom, and the carpet looked like it hadn’t been mopped in ages. Overall, not the best experience.

We got an email just 15 minutes before arrival telling us the Astoria was under renovation and that we’d be moved to the Maek Hotel. It was convenient that the new hotel was nearby, but the short notice felt unprofessional. The reception staff were a bit rude and seemed entitled, which was unnecessary. The room was large but not clean: bathroom tiles had stains and hair, the chairs were filthy, and the carpet looked dirty. I wouldn’t recommend either Astoria or Maek.

After driving three hours to Antwerp, we got a call ten minutes before check‑in saying the hotel was full and we should look elsewhere. It was a frustrating surprise, especially after such a long drive.

The hotel is close to the city centre, which is great, but the building feels old and the TV is outdated—no English channels at all.
