The view, thermal water, and Japanese‑style room charm (tatami/futon) on Yufuin’s heights, with a thousand‑year‑old cedar a few hundred meters into the forest, were lovely. We stayed during Silver Week, so it was very busy. The shared toilets were very clean but too close to the rooms, which were poorly sound‑proofed. Also, the futons weren’t thick enough for those who like very firm, back‑sleeping mattresses. The thermal water was good, but the small adjacent bathroom could use a tidy up and a clearer layout. The staff were welcoming.
