Hello Hostel

The dorm for four people was very quiet, though a bit noisy at night with the karaoke. The terrace had a small garden and benches to sit on. Tap water was available. The place was a 2‑minute walk from the beach and next to restaurants. The only drawback was the bathroom: there was just a small drain hole for the shower water, poorly positioned, so the bathroom stayed damp all the time, which was inconvenient for moving around. I asked for a sponge, but the next day it was gone! Still a minor detail, just something to note.

“Einfaches, aber schönes Hostel”

There’s a covered veranda with seating and shade, so you can spend afternoons there. Outside, you can dry clothes or towels in the sun. The Wi‑Fi was excellent and lockers were available for your belongings. We booked a tour through the hostel, which was great. The walk to the hostel was poorly maintained and unappealing. The room door had a wide gap letting mosquitoes in. During our four‑day stay the room wasn’t cleaned (toilet paper wasn’t refilled, trash bin wasn’t emptied).

“would definitely come back”

We didn’t stay in Hello Hostel because of an overbooking, but they arranged beds for us at their sister hostel right next to it. The bed was comfy, it was right next to the bus station, and there was enough space to hang up wet clothes. The billiards table closes at 10 p.m. (it doesn’t hurt anyone if I play longer).

“Primitief zonder water en stroom.”

The hostel’s location is great, but a few days without water and power forced us to wash in buckets of water from a barrel. That seems to be a major issue across the whole island.

This small hostel has a friendly team and a superb location, making it ideal for a couple of nights in Port Barton.
