The whole family made the stay feel like a warm welcome – the house was spotless, the terrace had a stunning sea view, and we could pick our own fruit from the garden: table grapes, strawberry grapes, pomegranates, figs, and quince. South Albania is worth the trip, especially the Blue Eye and Butrint with their layers of ancient cultures. The people are smart and instantly friendly, and the raki made by the old man Alikaj was a highlight.

The location and vibe are great, but the rooms lack TVs, there are almost no pots, and the kitchen is just a barbecue with one shared flame – not enough for anyone who wants to cook.

The terrace and view are amazing, and the grandmother who lives there is lovely and keeps everything clean, even though she can’t speak English. The bathroom is a nightmare – no separate shower, the whole room is a shower, and it’s tiny. Parking is steep and cramped, so driving up can be stressful if you’re not confident on a slope.
