“NOT SAFE FOR SOLO FEMALE TRAVELLER.”

I don’t feel safe traveling alone as a woman here. The room is in a creepy building called Chung Ching Mansion, full of Pakistani and Indian people, and you have to take the lift upstairs. There’s a curry smell in the room and the toilet is tiny – just 1 m² for toilet and bath together. I booked Swiss Hotel but was brought to a different inn in another block; when I was moving my large luggage the staff didn’t even help. I hate everything about the room and had to switch to a safer place. Everyone looks at me when I walk into the building, which feels creepy. The building’s local waste disposal is avoided by everyone.

A couple of nights here is fine; the spot is convenient with many shops nearby and the metro to Mong Kok. The staff are welcoming and helpful, which is more than adequate. The price is fair if you’re staying a few nights. The single elevator makes it a nightmare during rush hour. There were some cockroaches in the room, forcing me to put my stuff on the other bed. The equipment is old and needs serious renovation—there’s a rusty water heater and some DIY‑fixed parts that could be dangerous. Even though the host is nice, the real check‑in time should be shown on Booking; it’s not 11:30 as listed but 11:00. A 30‑minute grace period would have let me unpack and double‑check I hadn’t left anything behind. I found the pressure a bit irritating, but I get that business is business. For a one‑star hostel, I wasn’t expecting luxury, and I’m fully aware of that.
