From the moment we stepped in, Madeline welcomed us with genuine warmth. She cooked us several delicious dinners and served a tasty breakfast each morning. The spot is crazy good – we have our own little Maya ruin on the property plus a handful of swimming holes, and she even put together an audio guide that walks you through the ruins with plenty of interesting facts. It’s also a perfect launchpad for day trips to Caracol, El Pilar and the nearby caves.

The location can’t be beat if you have a car, and Miss Maddy and her team were always ready to help with a smile. We loved wandering the grounds, spotting wild animals and snacking on mangoes and coconuts straight from their organic garden. The only downside was the lack of air‑conditioning – the room relied on three fans – but the space was huge, so we didn’t mind too much.

Lower Dover feels like a true labor of love, with birds singing all around and a forest full of still‑being‑excavated ruins to explore. The kitchen is fully stocked, making it easy to cook your own meals, though you’ll want to join the owners and other guests for at least one shared dinner – the food is fantastic and the conversation even better. The hosts are enthusiastic about plant‑based diets, which was a nice touch.

“Comfortable cabins with jungle and ancient history at the same time”

Justin was an awesome host – friendly, full of Belize‑related tips, and always around to answer questions. Our four‑legged guide, Jose the golden mutt, met us in the driveway, checked on us at dinner, and led us on the property’s trails. The cabins are solid, equipped with AC (though fans kept us comfortable at night), and the communal hot‑water shower has plenty of space and multiple stalls. Dinner was served family‑style, which made it easy to mingle with other guests.

Everything was spot on except the bed – the mattress felt pretty worn. Aside from that, the place was perfect and Justin’s kindness and willingness to share really stood out.
