I’ve been globe‑trotting for 15 years and never felt such a void of basic human decency, safety, or corporate responsibility. Around midnight, one of our guests was bitten repeatedly, and we soon uncovered a massive, active bed‑bug infestation in the room, with bugs in several life stages. One guest in our party is pregnant, so this was an immediate medical and biological threat. To make matters worse, the property was deserted at night—no night staff, and the reception area was turned into an unstaffed storage room with a sign on the door. Management ignored all emergency calls and messages. When we called the company’s customer‑service line for help, the agent refused to arrange emergency relocation or alternative lodging, insisting any upfront costs would fall entirely on us. They gave us conflicting advice to stay at the hazardous property and wait for a host reply, with a 48‑hour response window. Because no safe shelter or financial support was offered during this crisis, we spent the rest of the night sleeping in our car with the pregnant guest. The next morning we finally checked out. When we handed over the keys, a staff member tried to hand us cash from their pocket to buy our silence and stop a formal report; we refused. The rest of our holiday was ruined as we had to find a commercial laundromat to high‑heat wash and sanitize all our clothes and luggage to avoid bringing the infestation home.
