It is very special to sleep on a boat. You also have direct contact with the other overnight guests and the owner, which I miss at B&Bs with a key box.

The location and the boat itself are fantastic! The boat to the Zuiderzeemuseum leaves behind the boat, and beer from the tap for 1,50 is always good (though I haven’t tried it yet because of my company). My bed had a broken slat, so I slept quite sagged. Additionally, there was a very loud creaking outside and you sleep right next to a church tower, which did not help the sleep quality. But perhaps that’s the charm of sleeping on a boat?

I spent my time aboard a historic ship docked right in the heart of Enkhuizen, surrounded by cafés where you can quickly grab the famous kibbelling, real Dutch potato, ice cream, and coffee, plus bars and restaurants within walking distance. The vessel itself was impeccably maintained and spotless, equipped with everything needed to cook on board. Captain Lucas helped us settle in, explained everything, and let us relax. He’s a very friendly and kind person, and my child even said she’d love to live here forever before we left. If you have a sensitive sleep, remember the ship is over 120 years old and may have some creaks or noises, but overall it was fantastic.
