The local dishes they served were pretty bland, so I didn’t feel like eating much of them. Finding the place was a hassle because there was no sign or any clue pointing to the residence. Overall, the stay was okay but the food and location left me underwhelmed.

Lilliet and the rest of the staff were friendly and the breakfast was solid, which was a nice start each morning. Unfortunately the hotel isn’t actually in Tortuguero – you have to take a 15‑minute boat ride that costs about $14, and the rooms are basic, very dark, with a tiny bathroom and unmade beds. On top of that, the price didn’t match what you get, so we ended up moving to another place even though it cost about half again.

The owners and staff treated us really well, and the room was surprisingly comfy for the price. It’s just a short walk to the hill entrance and the breakfast they served was tasty, making mornings pleasant. I’d definitely recommend staying here if you want good service without breaking the bank.

The people working there were genuinely nice—Dona Lidiette was attentive, Jorge was helpful and gave us great tips, and the overall service felt warm. The only real drawback was the public transport from San Francisco showing up an hour and a half late, plus a younger assistant who was curt and ignored my sister when she asked for a quick checkout. Aside from that, the stay was enjoyable.
