“Once a Great Hotel, Now Let Down by Poor Maintenance, Hygiene, and Service”
I used to think this hotel could still offer a great experience; it has a wide range of food, though the quality is generally average and the menu repeats daily. The best parts were the pancakes and freshly made eggs at breakfast, and the egg station allowed plenty of customization with vegetables, cheese, and ham. The pizzas were decent. Meal times were consistently kept, and food was removed promptly after serving time, but guests could finish eating without feeling rushed. The Wi‑Fi was slow (generally below 10 Mbps) yet usable when connected. Some staff were helpful, and the hotel still kept some of its original charm. With better management, maintenance, and hygiene focus, it could become an excellent destination again. Unfortunately, the hotel was poorly maintained and dirty. All our sinks were clogged, lights flickered, and the room’s electricity failed. I repeatedly saw cleaners handling rubbish and changing bed sheets without washing their hands. Some supposedly clean sheets smelled bad, and hygiene standards were unacceptable. Facilities and internet shut down just as the intense daytime heat became bearable, limiting their usefulness. Wi‑Fi was slow (below 10 Mbps), frequently disconnected, and sometimes impossible to reconnect to; VPN connections didn’t work. Food and restaurants offered plenty of variety, but dishes repeated daily and quality was average. Brunch was very limited, with almost no decent meat. Juices tasted artificial and diluted, while desserts were bland and nearly identical. Pancakes and eggs were decent, but queues were long, chocolate topping ran out, and eggs were cooked in excessive oil. Queue‑cutting was common, sometimes facilitated by staff, and no one intervened. Food was removed promptly when meal times ended, and dinner got crowded quickly. Staff and tipping staff friendliness often felt transactional, with constant expectations of tips. Some insisted on unnecessary assistance just to receive something; $1–2 was sufficient for small services. Beware of inflated prices and hidden charges for taxis, excursions, and hotel services; bargaining is essential. The spa was particularly disappointing: €150 for a short massage and body scrub using what appeared to be a shared towel. The price quickly dropped to €50, though even €25 seemed excessive. Some spa employees privately requested additional money when the manager wasn’t present. Diving services also raised pricing concerns. Overall, poor hygiene, neglected maintenance, mediocre food, unreliable internet, and aggressive tipping seriously undermined the experience. I could list more problems, but I’m not convinced management cares.
