The Speech House Hotel, built in 1676 as a hunting lodge for King Charles II, offers luxurious rooms with modern facilities and period features in the heart of the Forest of Dean. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. My wife appreciated having a dressing table with a nearby electric socket. Our room, four‑poster number 40, was great, though a rubbish dump was visible through the left‑hand side window. The dinner we ordered in the orangery took an hour and ten minutes to arrive, but we understand that there was a big wedding party at the exact same time. That won’t stop us from coming again.

The hotel feels quaint and historic, which I loved. The staff were the best and the service amazing. The food was exceptional, and the breakfast included in our room rate was beyond compare. I was staying for the uke fest and every day we ate like kings. Thank you! The Speech House is amazing, but my only complaint is that I wish I had stayed in the main building instead of one of the outside buildings; it just didn’t have the same ambience as the main house. If I have another chance to visit, I will ask for a specific area.
