“Great glamping experience with great staff and lots of animals!”
The glamping was great! It’s rather close to Johannesburg or Pretoria. We flew into Johannesburg and arranged a transfer via Little Mongena/Dinokeng Events, paying about 170 EUR for the transfer from and to the airport. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, doing their best whether the camp is full or you’re almost alone. The camp is more or less open, so you can encounter certain animals and definitely hear them at night. You have to be prepared for insects; we had a big spider in our tent—part of the experience. It’s luxurious, but you’re still sleeping in a tent after all, so keep that in mind. The game drives were great—we were extremely lucky to see lots of animals quickly (giraffes, lions, elephants, cheetahs, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, zebras—you name it). Our ranger was very competent and did her best to make the most of our drives. Snacks and drinks during the drives were very good. The cars are comfy and in great condition. Not too crowded. Very respectful and ethical approach. We switched one drive to a boat cruise in advance, which we liked a lot. The food during the stay was amazing! Breakfast included cold options (yoghurt, muesli, fruit, pastries, cheese, toast, etc.) and hot options (omelette, avocado toast, eggs benedict, etc.), which you could order. For lunch, we could choose between salads, burgers, paninis with fries or salad, etc.—all were delicious. Dinner was a three‑course affair with options for everyone. Drinks (except for welcome drinks and drinks during the game drives) are paid at the end, and the prices were really reasonable. Nothing negative—just be aware that it’s a tent outdoors, which comes with certain comfort boundaries. I felt the staff check the tents during the day and would remove any spider, but they can’t guarantee anything. If you’re sensitive to insects, think twice. If you’re fine with that, you’re in it for a great experience!
