“AVOID - DON’T STAY”

The owner is a liar and a potential scam—avoid at all costs. We arrived to find that the property was supposedly closed for “waterworks,” so we were told over the phone to meet them at a different place 10 minutes away. The new location didn’t match what we paid for: we had booked an en‑suite room, but the place they sent us to was a single room with a shared bathroom. We paid extra because we needed an en‑suite for accessibility reasons. It seems the owner doesn’t even have access to the advertised property, so this feels like a scam. The address they directed us to was 50 Chatham Street, and it appears the owner lives there. Privacy was nonexistent—we couldn’t use the toilet or any facilities without him being present. He even told us to leave the bathroom lock unlocked if we had trouble, claiming “there’s just us here.” At night he set up a mattress in the living area right next to our room and slept there. When I used the toilet, he watched me from his phone, shining it in my direction. The walls are thin, so it was very anxiety‑inducing to be in that situation with a stranger. I had to leave after the first night. When I asked customer support, he lied that he moved us because we had a wheelchair, even though he didn’t know that until we arrived. He lied to support and exploits people with access needs to avoid losing money.

The room had no breakfast and was cold because the heater wasn’t working; if the heater had been functional, it would have been fine.
