The only thing I liked was the size. There were no blackout curtains, so I couldn’t sleep in the afternoon; the bathroom was dirty, the floor was dirty, the room didn’t smell clean, the soap was horrible, the minibar had nothing, the floor was full of bugs and dust, there was no side table next to the bed, and there was no intercom to call reception.

The lodge feels cozy, staff are friendly and helpful, pointing you to where to buy things, and they partner with Viva Chapada for tour bookings; breakfast is delicious with fruit, bread, and juice varieties, rooms are comfy, tidy, and well organized—highly recommend for families, especially kids and seniors. A suggestion: for rooms on the lower floor near the garden, a portable clothesline like those in apartments would be handy; after waterfall trips, clothes come wet and need a place to hang and dry, which I missed.

The most beautiful part of the lodge is the exterior, with well‑kept plants, and breakfast was nice but nothing special. Like many lodges and hotels in Maranhão, the price is heavily inflated for what’s offered; the room is very basic with a HORRIBLE mattress! We checked in at reception and when we entered the room it felt like a mosquito nursery—never seen so many mosquitoes. We slept with the AC at 16 and it barely cooled the room, clearly faulty. Shower pressure was poor. We didn’t use the pool because the water was green, indicating the treatment was wrong. Paying 300 reais for a day for this service? NEVER AGAIN! Better, cheaper accommodation exists in Carolina if you book early. Also, for those without a car, it’s about 3.5 km from town center.
