We stayed at Camp Almanor to visit Lassen Volcanic National Park and it was such a great place to stay! The kids loved everything, it was cozy and they had information available in the cabin for local activities while we were there and local restaurant options that we loved

What I liked most was how quiet and private the property was, and the Camp host was very friendly. There was nothing I didn’t like.

The place, advertised as suitable for three people, felt cramped and far from cozy. The photos mislead you into thinking you’d have lake access just because the camp is near the lake, but a road and a row of private properties block any direct access and you can barely see the water from the cabin. We were woken around 3 am when the heater kicked in because the thermostat was set high; the heater sits under the sink and is so loud you can’t sleep when it’s running. We didn’t know about the thermostat at first, so we endured the noise all morning, which was frustrating. Once we turned it off, the heater stayed off, but if it gets cold you can’t sleep with it on. The heater should be outside to avoid cabin noise. The cabin is fine for a solo traveller or a couple, but with three people and three overseas suitcases there’s barely any room to move. We had planned a relaxing three‑day stay, but it wasn’t that at all. Combined with the heater issue on the first night, it was probably the worst accommodation we stayed in during our three‑week road trip. Susanne the host did everything she could to help, so we can’t fault her, but the accommodation is old and tired. The camp is near the lake, yet you barely see it and have no access; we expected maybe canoes or kayaks, but none are offered.

The camp was beautiful, quiet and clean, with a perfect lake view. Cindy, the host, was wonderful, very friendly and gave us great tips on where to eat and how to access the lake. The faucet that turns on the shower was broken and barely hanging on; there was only one water temperature because we couldn’t turn the faucet, it wasn’t very warm, and we worried it might break off entirely when we tried to turn it off. The sliding door didn’t lock, but we used a stick and it worked fine, so we felt safe. We notified Cindy about both issues.
