This stay felt like an adventure, from the moment I checked in, to the private onsen in the room, the amazing breakfast, and the hidden back door – it’s more than just a room. It’s expensive, but worth every yen. The only downside was having to leave.

The location is excellent, close to transport, shops, and a short walk to the Gion district. The staff were exceptional, the room was spacious with a private onsen and balcony, and the restaurant dinner was first‑class. If a mountain view matters, stay in a room above the fourth floor.

Having a private onsen and the option to use an open‑air but still private onsen on the property was great, and the meals were extensive. Be ready for a short (about 250 metres) and steep uphill walk from the Gora train station to the hotel. Still worth it!
